Psychological Intervention through phone service:
At beginning of Luck down at the time of March/April 2020, there were few covid-19 cases in Kathmandu valley could count in figure, but due to the news and social media people were afraid. They had good time for week or two as long holiday. Letter on, when time had extended time and again, people started to get suffering from basic life survival items. When the covid-19 luck down increase locally as well worldwide people started to suffer from financial crises and mental trauma. Our entertainment sector workers/daily wage bases workers/household workers/workers related to carpet and brick had suffered more than other types of workers as they have no saving to survive themselves for more days. In this situation they have full of stress, frustration, low self-esteem, restless, and psychological disturb and suffered severe headache, anxiety, sleeping disorder etc. CAP Nepal has provided with individual through phone, individual messenger as well group messenger counselling session and intervention accordingly to overcome and heal their traumatic situation. Our counsellor mediated core problems and current situation and the clients got relief method, coping skill and safe direction and solution to come out through the problems. They also received self-care tips to stay happy to be psychologically healthy.
Relief Access and Door to door Relief Distribution:
Emergency Response Fund from FF, CAP Nepal could able to provide the 1st Phase of relief to the entertainment workers, which could help them to extent their life for one more month. Food and gas is the basic need, through which life can sustain, they were very happy to us that we easily provided this basic things to their door without any documentation as other entity require such as identity card/citizenship etc. We had day to day connection to our beneficiaries so we are well known on their problems and difficulties, when we reach to their door, we could not express that how much happiness comes to their body and soul, they smile from inner as if their own parents come to visit them in this difficult period. But they have some hidden fear that what will happen when their food will run out. We have re-distributed at ERF 2nd phase to the entertainment workers who were with our connection through peer education program and suffering from different problems. We have provided their basic relief items to their door to other new workers too, whom we could not able to provide at 1st phase. Though traffic police have allowed the private vehicles in the basis of odd/even number, but it is difficult to our beneficiaries for movement as they have no any access on private vehicles. It takes many times to reach individual door and could not possible to complete within 2/3 days because they are spreading many parts of Kathmandu.
Support relief in presence of Local Government:
There are many tiny small snack shops around the Kathmandu valley, there is slum area nearby our office location, the people in this area have very low income before normal situation too, but in this lockdown period there are so many problems. We have talked with the deputy chairperson to select the appropriate families from this group to assist from relief. Ward no 10 of budanilakantha municipality has assist to conduct the relief distribution program with the presence of ward president. We provided them rice, lentil, Oil, salt, potato, dry vegetable soya, group of shops etc. with follow the instructions of safety measures of Covid-19 as notified by government of Nepal and WHO.
One of the most heart touching event in this relief distribution that we have noticed was, a 7-year-old girl child had come to receive the relief item after cooking food and feeding her mother who was sick and had just been the mother of another new baby as well. Her father does not care to the family and not responsible person as well alcoholic. We have decided to support from some items which were necessary to the new born baby and her mother.
Janakalyan Community School:
CAP Nepal had supported to the children who are at high risk of violence from long time. From 2013 CAP Nepal had provided around 40 to 50 children on yearly basis on education support in terms of fee, dress, education materials, and other psycho social council to the selected students in this school with the help of Global Fund for Children. In this lockdown period, those children had been victim from many ways. When there was lack of food at room their parents started to fight. The children who have single parent get more victim. We have also supported to the children in group on psycho social council. We had also motivated to the children to build the coping power in this situation. We had provided the relief items with the presence of local level government, school management committee and teachers.
Dhumbahara Community School:
CAP Nepal send their children in this school from long time. As same way the parents of this school children are belong to small snake shops, daily wage base workers, household workers, construction workers, carpet factory workers etc. After telephone discussion with the school management committee, school teachers and local government representatives we have provided relief to 23 children’s' family.
