Emergency Relief Distribution on 1st Phase

CAP Nepal was founded with the mission of equipping each marginalized woman and vulnerable children in its program with tools to become economically self-reliant and to move away from a life filled with violence and exploitation towards a life that provides freedom of choice, self-confidence, self-empowerment and eventual emancipation. Thus, in this dire situation, CAP Nepal works closely with the number of right holders; AES workers, CSEC groups and vulnerable children who are at risk of trafficking, sexual exploitation and violence and offering the different services to natures their lives. CAP Nepal undertook the following activities which helped to stay safe and positive lives of the groups and helped to encouraged them to fight against COVID-19.

Situation Assessment and Phone Follow up:

As it is very hard time to everyone. But our female AES workers and children remains in forefront. Being already vulnerable, stigmatized and discriminated, employed in entertainment sector our AES workers particularly affected by socially, economically and psychologically unbalance and is found to be affected from locking down.  Around 100 AES female workers are involved in CAP’s Peer educator program. In this crucial situation, they were facing difficulties to survive daily lives with family and dependencies being victim of job cut down and no employment. Looking onward the situation

Relief Access and Door to door Relief Distribution:     

With the support of FF, we started to work closely through door to door relief distribution for our needy peoples with the motive “If they cannot come with us, we should go there for help”.  It was really challenging for us to reached with our groups for their support. They were provided with relief package foods and daily needs goods (rice, dal, Oil, salt, potato, dry vegetable soya, group of shops, masks) with orientation on safety measures of Covid-19 as notified by Government of Nepal and WHO. Total 42 families were provided relief support from the organization. Out of which 31 were peer educators (AES workers), 6 were reintegrated residents and 5 were highly needed domestic workers. Besides that, CAP Nepal also provided some gas cylinders in need basis to the local government in Budhnilkantha Municipality which have helped to go direct to the deprived workers and vulnerable children. Local government has facilitating by providing cooked food for low level of daily wages labors, workers, small snack shop workers, restaurant and related to vulnerable children in different territories so on in Budhanilkantha Municipality with the help of civil society. Thus, we have helped some cylinders of Gas support in this campaign.

 Support relief in presence of Local Government:

Ward no 5 and 6 of Gokarneshor Municipality of Kathmandu located to Bouddha and Jorpati area, which is crowded area specially belong to the workers related to small snack and tea shops   daily wage workers, domestic workers, workers related to carpet factory. It is unbelieving that the above people have more kids than normal have. We could success to provide relief to 31 families of above categories of people in this area with the presence of local level ward president and other social peoples. Some of the women were the recent mother of the new child as well. They were provided with relief package foods and daily needs goods (rice, dal, Oil, salt, potato, dry vegetable soya, group of shops,) with orientation on safety measures of Covid-19 as notified by Government of Nepal and WHO.

The relief foods supported by organization really saved their lives for a month. The relief food doesn't simply recharge the individual batteries but it shaped their life. The economic stress on families due to the outbreak put children, and in particular children at greater risk of exploitation, child labour and gender-based violence. These vulnerable children and young people and our groups who are workless living in extreme poverty, scarcity, women and families at risk of domestic abuse and those struggling the daily lives were really saved through our support. Our close work with them helped to speak out and able to escape fear, violence and intimidation during this crucial situation. It also helped children’s rights to survive and thrive through good health, nutrition, and supportive caregiving, safety and protection. CAP Nepal also shared in its Facebook pages about precaution tips, informative videos, educational leaflets of WHO to make easy access of right information and to keep personal lives safe and to fight against COVID-19. Also, hotline number provided by National Women Commission Women, toll free number if anybody get violence. It helped to make aware and educate to our groups and children to fight against COVID-19 pandemic and encouraged them for living with physically, psychologically and socially wellbeing. Total 1500 people reached out through this Facebook information.
